In celebration of the 38th anniversary of the Mid –Ohio Board for an Independent Living Environment (MOBILE), Dr. Johannes J. Christian, MOBILE board chair will walk from Cincinnati, OH to Columbus, OH to bring awareness of the accomplishments and services of MOBILE throughout its 38 years existence.

MOBILE was established by a group of disability advocates in 1980 in order to empower people with disabilities to live empowered lives. Immediately after the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990, Centers for Independent Living were established across the America, resulting in MOBILE also becoming a “Center for Independent Living”.

MOBILE Board Chair Dr. Johannes J. Christian lost his eyesight in July of 2001 when teenager threw a rock off an overpass on Interstate 70 near Springfield.  The rock smashed through Dr. Christian's windshield breaking every bone in his face, leaving Dr. Christian blind and disfigured. As Dr. Christian began to recover and make adjustments to his new life, Dr. Christian did an unexpected act of forgiving the teen who caused his blindness and almost ended his life Dr. Christian shortly after formed The Face of Forgiveness to raise the awareness about victimization and the power of forgiveness while living with a disability.

In October 2017 Dr. Christian’s walk will serve as a benefit to raise money in support of the programs and services of MOBILE.
